Dr Michele O'Connell
Michele completed her General Paediatric training in Ireland before moving to Australia in 2005 to undertake specialty training in Paediatric Endocrinology. She was appointed as a staff specialist in the dept of Endocrinology and Diabetes at The Royal Children’s Hospital, Melbourne in 2009 and has been Deputy Director of the Department since 2016. She obtained a Doctorate of Medicine for clinical research assessing diabetes related technologies in youth with T1DM.
Michele is the paediatric endocrinologist for the RCH Gender Service which offers comprehensive assessment and ongoing management for gender diverse youth in Victoria and is the largest such clinic in Australia. Her main clinical and research interests include diabetes mellitus, disorders of sexual development and the impact of use of hormonal therapies for youth with gender dysphoria.
