Dr Jonathan Paul
The timing of birth is critical to human health. Preterm birth, low birth weight and other obstetric complications are associated with significantly heightened risk of neonatal morbidity and mortality, and have been linked to the fetal origins of adult disease in the long-term. Through understanding the mechanisms that trigger the onset of labour, and how dysregulation of these mechanisms leads to major obstetric complications, Dr. Jonathan Paul’s research aims to help ensure all babies have a healthy birth. As a reproductive scientist working on human parturition, a primary focus of Dr. Paul’s research has been the development of a novel targeted drug delivery system for the uterus. Through achieving targeted drug delivery to the pregnant uterus, Dr. Paul and his collaborators seek to open up new avenues for effective clinical intervention during obstetric complications, while simultaneously improving safety for both the mother and foetus.
